2 Top Career Tips
1) People already have a grounding in the technological world, no matter how simple. It is the marrying of that technological knowhow, with their career aspirations, that will unlock potential and opportunity. The magic happens when you marry your skills with your passion in the tech industry, then gain the expertise in order to add value. Make connections, build relationships and develop your network in order to go further. Be inquisitive and try to understand the capabilities at your command.
2) Be a continual learner. By constantly seeking to develop your knowledge, you will always add value and relevance.
Many companies are now having to onboard and train new employees using remote means. This has led to many new and creative ways of doing so – all tech based, which has opened many doors of opportunity. When we begin our tech careers, we must understand that adaptability will be required. Be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone as you and your new employer begin the process of “stress testing” each other. It’s far better to ask a question and receive help in order to fill a gap in your knowledge, than to say nothing and pretend that you know it all.
The best way to advance your career is to put yourself out there. Even if the answer is no, you’ll gain a better understanding of why this is not the right time, and where you need to improve in order to receive a yes the next time.
