2 Top Career Tips
1) Set goals for yourselves, but keep them realistic. It’s all very well to shoot for the moon, but remember your limits. Goals help to keep us on track and give us something to aim for.
2) Persistence is key to success. Whenever we begin a new pursuit, there’s always a honeymoon phase. We need to stick with it through this, and into the challenge phase.

Worst Career Moment
Early in his career, Peter felt a sense of displacement, and took a role in an unfamiliar area, which shaped the direction of his whole outlook on his career.
Career Highlight
Peter found himself on the receiving end of some very attractive offers from large and influential tech companies, and found himself in the enviable position of being able to choose.

IT is continuously evolving. Every day is a “school day”, which allows us the constant opportunity for learning and growth.

What first attracted you to a career in I.T.?
Curiosity and the ability to apply new learning.
What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
That you won’t be able to be an engineer unless you know how to program, and get a degree.
What is the worst career advice you’ve ever received?
To get out of testing, because it has no future!
If you had to begin your career again in today’s world, what would you do?
Peter would study machine learning and focus upon that sector, as it is in high demand.
What career objectives are you currently focusing on?
Peter wants to move into leadership, and have more influence in larger organisations. He also wants to improve and develop technical skills.
What’s the number one non-technical skill that has helped you in your career so far?
Communication and empathy.
What do you do to keep your own career energized?
Listening to podcasts, which provides differing perspectives, as well as reading.
What do you do in your spare time away from technology?
Peter enjoys spending time with his young son and astronomy.
