1) In hierarchical organizations, we often allow our value to be defined by others, when we should in fact be constantly aware of the personal value we bring to any interaction.
2) Balance your learning equally between learning about technology and learning about the world. You not only need to understand the tools, but also the problem you wish to solve.

Worst Career Moment
The early stages of a tech career, where anxiety took over and self-doubt took over, causing Jennifer to doubt her own skills and abilities. Also the jobs that weren’t taken as a result of fear of failure.
Career Highlight
Taking the skills developed in cyber-security and seeing how the US-centric approach could be adapted and translated on a global scale. This was a humbling and eye-opening experience.
The Future
Everything is possible now. Technology is no longer restricted to the domain of IT, but in the hands of the world itself. The fruits of the labours of past generations are finally seeing the light of day.

What first attracted you to a career in I.T.?
Having worked in the non-profit sector, Jennifer was attracted by money.
What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Be special. If you want to build a career, it will work better if you find the opportunities where your skills are unique.
What is the worst career advice you’ve ever received?
To not chase new opportunities or greater skills.
If you had to begin your career again in today’s world, what would you do?
Jennifer would focus on data. This is the area which can have the most impact upon the world.
What career objectives are you currently focusing on?
Jennifer is focusing upon giving back. It’s important to ensure that the spirit of growth and creativity continues into future generations.
What’s the number one non-technical skill that has helped you in your career so far?
Empathy, which Jennifer values as the way in which IT can hold meaningful conversations with the rest of the world, in order to recognize the needs around us.
What do you do to keep your own career energized?
Constant learning and development keeps Jennifer’s skill set fresh and energized.
What do you do in your spare time away from technology?
Jennifer greatly values getting outside and connecting with nature.
